Dr. Shari J. Crane : Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Crane attended Mayo Medical School, located at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At Mayo she learned the importance of a careful and complete evaluation of every patient. During her time at Mayo she was nominated to be the sole medical student representative serving on the Mayo Foundation Equal Opportunities Committee. She was also elected president of the senior medical school class at Mayo.

After graduating in 1992, she completed her one year internship in Pediatrics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The following year she completed a one year medical research fellowship at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forrest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Next she completed a four year diagnostic radiology residency at the University of California, San Diego, and passed her board exam prior to graduation.

She pursued further training in Psychiatry at the University of Arizona in 2003 to 2005, during which time she was awarded a one year mentorship through the American Psychoanalytic Association. She next completed an additional two year fellowship specializing in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from 2005 until 2007 at the University of Arizona. She was elected the Chief Resident during her final fellowship year.

After graduating in 2007 she worked in multiple community medicine clinics, primarily working with disadvantaged children. Because of her strong medical back ground, she diagnosed many medical conditions in children and young adults which had been misdiagnosed as mental health issues.

True to her initial training at Mayo Clinic, she remains an advocate of a thorough medical evaluation and comprehensive approach to treatment. She takes time to address discussion of nutritional habits, sleep, school or work issues, family and partner stress, identity issues, past trauma, current life transition difficulties, cultural, and spiritual issues, as well as medication management. Due to her breadth of training, she is able to work with individuals and families who prefer to investigate therapeutic and nutritional treatment options prior to consideration of medication management.
